To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting much from this flick but, since it was available on Amazon Prime, I thought I might check it out anyway. Well, if they start adapting smartphone games, the current obsession with popular IPs has definitely reached an all-time low. In this case, I did play this game a couple of times but it was never a favorite of mine and I never understood why it became so popular. Above all, how could you adapt a seemingly very simple puzzle game like this one into a full-length feature? Well, not really apparently but it was hardly surprising. At least, the main ‘birds’ (Red, Chuck, Bomb, Terence) did look like the characters in the game but it was probably the only thing that worked in this movie. By the way, I had noticed that Sean Penn was involved in this movie which was some brilliant casting since the guy has always been known for his anger issues. However, I was waiting to hear his voice but it never happened. It made sense though. Indeed, they gave him Terrence who actually had no dialogue whatsoever which was such a wasted opportunity. Concerning the rest of the movie, the anger management class was not a bad idea but the whole idea of these pigs stealing their eggs was so predictable and boring. I was also amazed by the ending which resulted in the city of the pigs being completely destroyed (who knows how many casualties there were on the pigs’ side?). Sure, you could argue that it was in line with what happened in the game but, as far as I was concerned, it seemed terribly bleak for a kids movie like this one. Anyway, to conclude, maybe very young children who love the game might enjoy this movie but, in my case, I was seriously bored by the damned thing and I don’t think it is really worth a look.
