Review of Y2K

Confusing and inconsistent tone
The film blends comedy, horror, nostalgia, and science fiction, but fails to maintain a coherent rhythm. At times it wants to be funny, then violent, then thoughtful, and the whole thing feels unbalanced.
Weak script, flat characters
The characters' motivations aren't explored in depth; many fall into stereotypes. Relationships aren't solidified, which makes the dramatic twists lose their weight.
Excessive nostalgic references without substance
It uses many symbols of the 90s/early 2000s (old technology, music, aesthetics) as a "hook," but doesn't always integrate them into the story organically.
High ambition, little space
The running time (โ‰ˆ 92 minutes) forces it to move quickly with conflicts that could use more space to breathe. Many scenes feel rushed or disconnected.
High expectations vs. Production reality
Although it's Kyle Mooney's directorial debut, his fame gained in comedy doesn't translate perfectly to genre films. Some critics say it falls somewhere between homage, parody, and disaster.
