I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since there was a decent cast involved and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, even though there was nothing really wrong with this movie, to be honest, I’m afraid it still didn’t work. Basically, it seems that they wanted to go for a deep edgy vibe but the end-result unfortunately felt terribly flat, especially after watching recently ‘Euphoria’. I read on IMDb a comment from someone else which was actually pitch-perfect. What this viewer pointed out was the fact that, within the first 5 mins, the main character threw away a perfect looking blunt which was something that no real pothead would ever do. Sure, it might seem like a small detail but it was a good example of what was going wrong in this flick. Indeed, even though they smoked a lot of weed, none of them looked really stoned actually. I mean, I used to be a major smoker back in the days and nobody in my gang looked like any of them. To make things worse, even though they had a really solid cast (Lucy Hale, Alexandra Shipp, Awkwafina, Alex Wolff, Brooke Smith, Austin Butler), none of the characters was really interesting. The fact that the youngest of this group of (girl)friends was 27 years old, 10 years older than their respective characters, was also rather annoying. In fact, Alexandra Shipp and Awkwafina were both criminally underused which was even more awkward since they were the Black and Asian girls of this group. Eventually, the only thing which was remotely intriguing was the rapey scene during the party towards the end. Indeed, the way they both acted was quite pitch-perfect, both in how creepy it was and how everyone seemed to (unfortunately) act really casual about it afterwards. Unfortunately, they did nothing at all with this scene which was basically handled as another random event. Anyway, to conclude, my rating might seem to be harsh but the damned thing was actually rather weak and I don’t think it is really worth a look.
