A good movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was starring Lily-Rose Depp and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, I’m surprised it was so poorly received because, as far as I was concerned, it was actually not bad at all. At first, it reminded me of ‘The Lobster’ with this weird surreal vibe and the connection this people had with their spiritual animals. However, even though the concept might seem completely weird, I started to take it more seriously after a while. Eventually, it reminded me of many conversations I had with anti-transexual people when they would make this useless and pointless argument ‘but what if I wanted to be a penguin then?’. At the time, I would tell them that it was obviously completely ridiculous but, after watching this movie, I actually changed my mind. Indeed, eventually, if it gives you a sense of purpose and if it makes you feel better in your own skin, actually why the hell not? I also think that George MacKay gave here a very strong performance, especially when he was behaving like a wolf. Concerning Lily-Rose Depp, she was not bad either but I think it was a mistake to have her identify as a wild cat. Indeed, I think it would have worked better if she would also have identified as a wolf. I mean, if you follow the logic of this movie, it didn’t really make sense that a wolf would fall in love with a cat. Still, I have to admit that the whole thing didn’t completely work though. Basically, the movie focused on these patients giving in their animal spirit/identity/whatever and the staff would then constantly, at best, belittle them, or at worst, outright mistreat them but it’s basically the only things that happened throughout the whole duration and it was just too slight, I’m afraid. Anyway, to conclude, even though I might be in the minority, I actually enjoyed the damned thing and I think it is worth a look.
