An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. I have to admit that I do have a weak spot for ‘Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron’ and, in my opinion, it is probably one of the most underrated movies from DreamWorks Animation. Unfortunately, this sequel (actually, it is not really a sequel but, whatever…) was just so lame though. I completely forgot it before watching this movie but, in fact, it was more linked to ‘Spirit Riding Free’, an animated series on Netflix which I never saw. Anyway, there was something raw and epic about ‘Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron’ but, unfortunately, instead of focusing on a wild stallion, this time, they focused on a (really tedious) little girl with a supposedly strong personality. As a result, it was basically your generic horse movie that only young girls might enjoy but I really struggled to care about the damned thing. What bothered me the most was probably the fact that this young girl who had so far no contact whatsoever with horses managed to tame this wild horse with some apples and by being kind to the wild animal. Sure, it might look cute but I think it was rather insulting to this beautiful wild beast and to horse professionals but it showed the depth displayed here. To make things worse, the CGI animation was rather ugly. To be honest, it is rather surprising that they managed to get such a rather impressive voice cast (Isabela Merced, Mckenna Grace, Walton Goggins, Julianne Moore, Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza González) but I guess the Neflix series might have a strong reputation. Anyway, to conclude, even if I was probably not the target audience here, I still think it was pretty weak and there are so many much better animated features to watch with your kids out there.
