An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, while his brother Peter managed to win a Best Picture Academy Award with this first solo effort with ‘Green Book’ (considered by many, included myself, as one of the least deserving winners), it took Bobby Farrelly almost a decade to come up with his own directorial solo effort. I didn’t know before watching it but it was actually a remake of a Spanish movie called ‘Campeones’ which made this movie even less original than it already was. Still, I have to admit that the damned thing was harmless though. Indeed, it is basically a really generic story of a talented coach with some poor social skills who is forced to train a team of massive losers and, of course, they become super good and the coach ends up loving this team of misfits. He even ends up having sex with the sister of one of his players, another huge clichés in the genre. The fact that she was the same girl he had a Tinder date at the beginning of the movie was also some seriously lazy writing. The big idea here was that the players were some real mentally disabled actors and I’m still not sure if the movie should get some extra points for that. I guess I still feel rather neutral about this choice. Anyway, there is no denying that some of them were quite charismatic. It also helped that the main character was played by Woody Harrelson, still one of the most dependable actors after all these years, and he didn’t disappoint here, even if he didn’t really have to stretch his skills much for this material. To conclude, I have to admit that it was not bad and it is worth a look, even if it is still completely forgettable.
