I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it seemed to have a decent reputation and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, it turned out to be actually rather disappointing after all. While watching the damned thing, I thought it was so similar to ‘John Wick’ but it made sense since it was involving the same writer and the same producer which was something I found out only afterwards. Basically, they took pretty much exactly the same plot and took an even more unlikely actor to play some kind of unstoppable killing machine. Well, it seems that the fans of the Keanu Reeves action franchise really loved this (very similar) take on the same concept but, once again, I actually had a rather hard time to care for it. On top of that, in my opinion, it didn’t really add up. Indeed, if the main character was really ‘nobody’, he wouldn’t have been such a skilled killer. It would be like calling Jason Bourne, John McClane or John Rambo ‘nobodies’ simply because they retired from their previous line of work to live a quiet life in the suburbs. Concerning Bob Odenkirk, many were surprised that he actually could pull it off but, after watching ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’, I knew he was a terrific actor who could play pretty much anything, as long as he was given the opportunity. Of course, it’s easier said than done and the guy had to prep for months to be able to deliver such kick-ass action scenes. Concerning these action scenes, as with the ‘John Wick’ franchise, sure, they were all very well done but, to be honest, it’s a matter of taste and, after a while, it all becomes rather repetitive, at least, to me. Anyway, to conclude, even if I was maybe expecting more, I have to admit that it was still a decent watch and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
