An average movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. To be honest, I wasn’t really impressed, that’s for sure. When the movie started, I was pretty sure I already saw some other stuff directed by Scott Stewart and it’s only afterwards that I found out that he was also responsible for the rather dreadful ‘Priest’ and ‘Legion’. Well, even if this movie was still pretty weak, at least, it was probably his best movie so far. Basically, it was a rather generic half-baked abduction horror flick. It was also rather sad but it was probably not done on purpose. I mean, the father was unemployed, the mother was struggling as a real-estate agent, did they really deserved on top of that to be targeted by some aliens, apparently completely randomly according to this movie? The other thing that bothered me was that, even though Keri Russell was, as usual, super charismatic, I didn’t care much about Josh Hamilton and she seemed to be way of his league. The fact that he had to play the really thankless job of being the rational one when everything was going batsh*t crazy probably didn’t help. However, even worse were all the kids involved. Seriously, it was already annoying enough to see yet another horror flick focusing so much on kids acting ‘weird’ but, to make things worse, none of them was able to play their respective characters in a convincing and/or entertaining way. At some point, J.K. Simmons showed up rather randomly for 10 mins but, contrary to this children, he really nailed it, as usual, which was even more remarkable since his character kept talking about some really far-fetched conspiracy theory with a real straight face. Anyway, to conclude, like the rest of the work of Scott Stewart, the end-result was rather forgettable and you should probably avoid it.
