I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since there was a decent cast involved and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, I didn’t expect the damned thing to turn out to be so lame after all. Basically, even though it was dealing with mental diseases and psychoanalysis, which is a super interesting subject, there wasn’t a single scene which did look or sound convincing in this area. To make things worse, Casey Affleck, usually a really solid actor, gave here such a weak performance but I have to admit that he wasn’t helped by how poorly developed his character was. Basically, up until the final act, the guy was so numb, instead of being understandable, it was increasingly frustrating and annoying, and you would expect a psychiatrist to be able to better communicate his thoughts and feelings (seriously, I think he said he was fine at least 20 times when someone asked him when it was obviously never the case). For Michelle Monaghan, the damage was slightly less but, in her case, she had once again such a thankless job playing the wife of the main character in another really weak movie, something she has been mostly doing during the last 20 years of her career. At least, India Eisley, whose character was also poorly written like the others, did manage to do something interesting in the sense that I actually believed in this girl and I wish they dropped everything else and focus only on her. Concerning Sam Claflin, I guess he was charismatic but everything his character was just so predictable and he was stuck playing your basic boring psychopath. Anyway, to conclude, I think I was rather generous with my rating, the damned thing was a waste of time and you should probably avoid it.
