An average movie

I wasn’t really expecting much from the damned thing but, since it was starring Jane Fonda and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out anyway. Well, it has been already 20 years since Fonda made a more than welcome come-back but, to be honest, you wonder if it was really worth it if the acting legend will then focus her last years on such geriatric comedies (see also the ‘Book Club’ movies). Basically, the concept is pretty straightforward, Jane Fonda and a group of 3 friends played by some other famous elderly actresses are going through some (rather random) adventure with actually very limited danger. Sure, they always manage to gather a group of talented women (in this case, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field) for such movies and they were quite delightful. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, the plot was rather tedious and you wish they got involved in something more interesting. In this case, the fact that the whole thing was some kind of shameless commercial for the NFL probably didn’t help. I also wish that these women would have been fan of the game through most of their lives, not because they accidently bumped into a game on TV 16 years before. Sure, you could argue that it was based on a true story but they probably changed most of what actually happened to make it (supposedly) more entertaining and certainly easier to digest for the mainstream audience. Anyway, after watching 2 ‘Book Club’ movies and this feature, I’m really ready to watch Fonda finally do something else. To conclude, even though I have to admit that it was rather harmless, the whole thing was just too lazy and not entertaining enough and I don’t think it is really worth a look.
