A very good movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since I have always been fascinated by climbing and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, I wasn’t disappointed, that’s for sure. It was pretty cool that it started with a voice-over comment from Alex Honnold, another mesmerizing climber, and you could consider this movie as some kind of spiritual sequel to ‘Free Solo’. In fact, while watching ‘Free Solo’, I thought Honnold was one of the coolest guy that I have ever seen but, to my surprise, Marc-André Leclerc was actually even cooler and even more inspiring. I mean, Honnold is pretty amazing, no doubt about it, but, as he admitted himself, he is actually really competitive which means that he actually cares about records and stats and stuff like that, which is nothing to be ashamed of and even expected from such a top sportsman. However, Leclerc didn’t care at all about all this stuff, he didn’t care about the notoriety that could come with his climbing achievements which made him even more inspiring. Was Leclerc the best climber ever? He certainly didn’t care and it didn’t matter which resulted in the purest climbing I have ever saw. As a result, even though I’m usually terrified when I watched such movies, I was surprisingly relaxed here which is a huge tribute to his skills. However, contrary to Honnold in ‘Free Solo’, Leclerc actually didn’t survive at the end of this movie which was so heartbreaking. At least, I’m glad I didn’t know that before watching this movie as it allowed me to really focus on the present moment and not constantly dread the upcoming tragic conclusion. Anyway, to conclude, I really enjoyed the damned thing and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
