An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Right from the start, I thought the concept was rather half-baked and, to make things worse, it was also so poorly developed. It seemed that they started with this idea, then wrote only 1 or 2 drafts and thought it was probably just fine. Well, it wasn’t, I’m afraid. First of all, let’s go back to the original concept, can you imagine if they would swap this black woman played by one of the sweetest actress at work nowadays with some creepy white guy? Yeah, it would have been even more cringe-inducing. But, sure, a weird misguided idea could have been interesting if the makers actually knew what to do with it. I mean, you wonder what could be the deal with Sue Ann but, when it was revealed, it was just so underwhelming. Seriously, even Freddy Krueger had a more satisfying backstory. Eventually, we learned nothing about her at all, the only thing they gave us was her acting weird and unhinged through the whole duration. At least, it was nice to see Octavia Spencer playing the lead for once and she was pretty good but it shows how talented she is to make something out of this really half-baked material. Concerning the other characters, it was even worse though. Indeed, I don’t think I remember any of their names and I saw this movie only yesterday. Unfortunately, none of the actors involved had  Spencer’s talent to make something out of their totally half-baked characters. Eventually, the conclusion here is that you basically shouldn’t trust anybody in this world because, who knows, the nice little lady or dude that helped you out buying some alcohol might be actually some major psycho. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of Octavia Spencer’s efforts, the damned thing was pretty weak and you should probably avoid it.
