I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was starring Tom Hardy and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. In fact, this movie was stuck in development hell for some years as the principal photography was officially done all the way back in 2021. However, in spite of its troublesome production, the damned thing turned out to be pretty good though. To be honest, it was a pretty basic story about some corrupt cops involved in some scheme but, to hide the fact that it was nothing we haven’t seen 100 times before, they told it in a rather convoluted way. However, even though the plot barely worked, the action scenes were just so intense and visceral, especially the extended action scene in some night club, I seriously was gasping in disbelief every 5 seconds. It was seriously some of the best action scenes I have seen in years and I actually saw ‘John Wick 4’ only a few days ago (why this franchise is so popular is really beyond me). I mean, even the sound of the gun shots sounded more intense than usual. Obviously, Tom Hardy, probably one of the best actors nowadays, was totally game and completely badass, even if his character was barely developed and basically a walking cliché. I have to admit that I have never been a huge fan of Gareth Evans, I did watch ‘The Raid: Redemption’ but, to be honest, it didn’t really impress me. On the other hand, I saw it more than 10 years ago and maybe I should give it a 2nd chance, especially after watching this flick which was so satisfying in the action department. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, I actually enjoyed this movie and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
