I don’t know if you have noticed but I tend to be pretty random with what I watch. Indeed, I watch pretty much anything and, to be honest, with more than 50% of the movies I watch, I’m actually wasting my time. In this case, while I was watching this one, I kept wondering how the hell did it end up in my queue. Anyway, the damned thing was pretty weak, that’s for sure. I mean, I have nothing against Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, they can be pretty funny and it was a brilliant idea to have them play some sisters. I also loved the idea of these women in their 40’s throwing some really wild party. Unfortunately, pretty much nothing else worked though. First of all, there was the fact that both women had to play some boring stereotypes. Then, their personal dramas were also rather tedious. Finally, they had to find a way to have them having this party but the way to get there was just so convoluted and, again, above all, barely entertaining whatsoever. It might also explain why this movie was almost 2hrs long which was just way too long for this material. Another issue was that, even though they had a decent supporting cast (Maya Rudolph, James Brolin, Dianne Wiest, John Cena, John Leguizamo, Greta Lee), all their characters were barely developed whatsoever. It was especially weird to see Greta Lee who completely blew me away in ‘Past Lives’, my favorite movie released in 2023, playing here a rather offensive even borderline debasing Asian character. I still think that the material actually had some potential, I just wish it would have been properly developed which was definitely not the case here. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was rather harmless, it was still pretty weak though and I don’t think it is really worth a look.
