An average movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was starring Emma Roberts and since it was available on Disney+, I thought I might as well check it out. Obviously, I wasn’t the target audience at all but, to be honest, I really struggled to care about the damned thing though. Indeed, the two main characters were just rather annoying but it mostly had to do with the fact that Emma Roberts and JoJo Levesque gave such abysmal performances. Sure, I understand that both of them had very little acting experience back then but, I’m sorry, they were just cringe-inducing to behold. Fortunately, Sara Paxton turned out to be actually pretty much pitch-perfect though. Obviously, she did look pretty but it went beyond that as she gave the right amount of sass, innocence and bubbliness to her character. Sure, it wasn’t an Oscar-worthy performance but she was convincing and entertaining enough. Furthermore, even if her relationship with Jake McDorman’s character was rather generic and predictable, how it did end was actually pretty sweet. It was also quite funny to see these teenagers completely invested in their girl magazines, a culture which has vanished since the youth is nowadays pretty much addicted to their smartphones, like everyone else though. Concerning Emma Roberts, I do have a weak spot for her, I think she is really charismatic, but back then, she was just a terrible child actress. At least, JoJo was/is a singer, not an actual actress so it might explain her lack of skills. Eventually, it was just weird to see these 2 girls pretty much stalking first some guy and then their mermaid friend trying to seduce the very same guy they were stalking before. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was quite harmless, the end-result was still pretty lame and I don’t think it is really worth a look.
