A very good movie

I already saw this movie but, since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I thought I might as well check it out again. In fact, I actually watched this movie for the first time in the movie theater back in the 90’s when the Wallace and Gromit shorts were released all together. In my opinion, this one might be actually the best Wallace and Gromit feature or, at least, it is my favorite one. Indeed, in ‘A Grand Day Out’, Wallace’s design was still a little bit rough and it was in this movie that Nick Park figured out how he should look like. It was also with this movie that Park did set most of the trademarks that would be running through this whole franchise. Sure, they might have improved the clay-motion technique afterwards but this short still looks pretty awesome though and it is above all so damned entertaining. After all these years, I was still amazed by how thrilling the toy train chase scene was and, with this 2nd feature, it was obvious that Park was much more ambitious. With this movie, they also introduced Feathers McGraw, one of the most hilarious villains I have seen. It was quite impressive how much they managed to do with a character who didn’t speak and whose face was actually completely emotionless (this character would make a comeback 30 years later in ‘Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl’). To be honest, it’s too bad that they seemed stuck afterwards, creatively speaking. Indeed, by now, I have seen all the Wallace and Gromit movies and, even though the clay-motion was always amazing, even though alle these movies were all quite entertaining, narratively speaking, they all looked too similar to this movie. Anyway, to conclude, I really loved the damned thing and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
