An average movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was starring Angelina Jolie and since it seemed to have a decent reputation, I was quite eager to check it out. First of all, I have to admit that I didn’t know much about Gia Carangi and it was pretty cool to get to know her. However, to be honest, I was actually surprised by how disappointing the damned thing was after all though. Basically, it turned out to be a rather average TV feature and not really much better than that. First of all, you had this really cheesy jazz soundtrack which is quite typical for this kind of cheap-ass movies. Another thing which was even more annoying was this kind of mockumentary approach as the actors were acting as if they were interviewed and telling their ‘experience’ with Gia. But none of them actually knew her so it felt completely pointless. Concerning Angelina Jolie, to be honest, I’m not so sure if she gave such a strong performance but, damned, she was just so charismatic back in those days and she was a perfect choice to play the doomed super-model. Coming back on Gia Carangi, she was definitely an intriguing woman, I was actually rather surprised that they didn't show much modelling after all and lot of drama focusing on her drub abuse instead. However, it did make sense though because her modelling career only lasted a few years after all (basically from 1978 to 1981). Eventually, it’s interesting that she had such a huge impact on the fashion world back then. Still, in spite of Angelina Jolie’s efforts, I think a documentary might have been more satisfying after all. Anyway, to conclude, even if it didn’t work for me, I guess it is still worth a look, if only to see a young Angelina Jolie really shining on the screen.
