Review of The Watchers

The Watchers is a deeply flawed attempt at exploring the mythology and lore of Irish faeries. A less is more approach might have suited this. A focus on atmosphere rather than over the top monster design would have been more effective. It feels as if the script was written by Chat GPT. It seems to lack that human connection to the guilt of the main character.

The story is incoherent and all over the place. It has way too many inconsistencies and elements just tacked on. From the first 5 mins I felt right way that it would fall apart. Essentially it's a story about loss and guilt. Why it's set in the West of Ireland and brings in Irish mythology is anyone's guess. This is why it feels like a film made my some machine learning app rather than a human being.

The design of the faeries is the biggest misstep, as the mystery behind them and not knowing what form they take is the most interesting thing about them.

A wasted opportunity of a wealth of cinematic potential.
