An average movie

To be honest, even if I have to admit that ‘First Blood’ was not bad (it has been a while since I saw it though), I never really cared for this franchise but since it was starring Sylvester Stallone, I thought I might as well check it out anyway. Well, surprisingly, it wasn't bad at all after all, in fact, I think it was actually better than the previous installment. Still, it doesn’t mean that this movie was great though. I mean, its greatest asset was the fact that it felt so different than the previous movies which was quite refreshing. However, it was also an issue, I’m afraid. Indeed, basically, they took a really generic revenge tale and then dropped in John Rambo as the main character but, eventually, the end-result barely felt like a Rambo flick after all. Another thing that bothered me was the fact that, in my opinion, it was just so mean that, after getting beat up to death, after going through all this trouble to rescue his niece, the poor girl actually died when she was actually on her way back home. It was especially mean because the only reason they went for this was to make sure that the guy would go berserk and kill a whole bunch of sex-traffickers in the process. Sure, you could argue it was the whole point of the movie from the start but the way to get there was rather depressing. Finally, why did Paz Vega took this really thankless role? I mean, her international career has never been really impressive but there was really nothing interesting about her character. Anyway, to conclude, even if it didn’t turn out to be as bad as I expected it to be, I still don’t think it is really worth a look, except maybe if you are a die-hard fan of this iconic character.
