I wasnโt really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was starring Matt Damon and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. To be honest, I really struggled to care about the damned thing after all. I have to admit that I didn't know beforehand that it was actually based on the Amanda Knox story but I figured it out within a few mins. Well, I wonder if I would have appreciated more this movie if I didn't see this Amanda Knox documentary a couple of years ago on Netflix. Anyway, it was rather preposterous to try to convince the viewers that some redneck from the US would come to France, without speaking the language, and would somehow manage to crack this case. To make things worse, for some good chunks of the movie, you only get to see the main character going from one place to another asking stuff to people which was rather boring after a while. So, in spite of a solid performance from Matt Damon, most of it didn't really work at all and, yet, the damned thing was not completely lame though. Indeed, there were some moments when they stopped delivering another underwhelming generic thriller and went for, well, something else. Basically, life will always throw at you some curve balls and, at some point, this guy would didn't speak any word of French, didn't know anything about the French culture, did end up living there for a while which was intruiging. His bond with Maya was especially neat. It's too bad his romance with Maya's mother was not only really predictable but it was probably one of the least romantic relationships I have seen in quite some time. Anyway, to conclude, I actually think that my rating was too high for this movie but I guess it might still be worth a look though, especially if you are fan of Matt Damon's work.
