I actually came across this movie completely by chance when I was looking for something else on my TV guide but, since I have always been a huge fan of Reggae music, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, I wasnโt disappointed, that's for sure, but to be honest, if you are not into this music genre, it probably won't be interesting for you but, for the fans like me, it was pretty awesome. In fact, even though Iโm quite familiar with Reggae history and even though I obviously heard about Trojan records (I even have a few of their CD's), I didn't know the history of this label so it was pretty cool to discover what happened back then. However, even though I knew pretty much all the songs, I didn't know or recognize everyone who was involved, there were so many people interviewed and, to be honest, it was not always clear what was their impact on Reggae music in general and on Trojan records in specific, at least, not for all of them. The other thing that didn't really work was the fact that, up until Trojan became really successful at the beginning of the 70's, they took their time to explain and develop each stage that lead to this success which was really neat and informative. Unfortunately, everything happening afterwards was rushed and barely developed at all which was too bad. Indeed, this success did last only for a few years but it was unclear why and Trojan even went bankrupt fairly quickly afterwards. Eventually, you might wonder how a successful label could go from delivering number 1 hits and lose everything in such a short time period but you won't get any useful information here since this aspect was handled in maybe 5 mins. Anyway, to conclude, even if it wasn't flawless, I still really loved the damned thing and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are a fan of Reggae like I am.
