A good movie

To be honest, I wasnโ€™t a huge fan of 'A Quiet Place' but, since this sequel was available on Netflix l, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, even if it didn't blow me away, it was still a decent watch though. I think what bothered me the most with 'A Quiet Place' when I saw it was not the movie itself but the fact it was, at the time, seriously overhyped. Eventually, it was definitely not the case here so I didnโ€™t have some huge expectations and it was probably a good thing. First of all, the intro was pretty neat. Sure, obviously, it was also a good excuse to still have John Krasinski's character turning back, even if he actually died in the previous movie. However, above all, it clearly displayed that they were going for a different approach with this sequel which was pretty neat. Indeed, while its predecessor was a silent minimalist affair, this sequel was more a classic monster horror feature with some bombastic action scenes. To be honest, the story did feel rather scattered though, especially when 3 group of characters got their own storyline at some point. As a result, even though most of the Abbott family was returning, none of them was developed at all this time around which did feel like a missed opportunity. They also added up Cillian Murphy to the mix and they were very lucky to have an actor of this caliber to play such a thankless role. Seriously, it was quite impressive how much he could do with the very little material he was actually provided. On the other hand, it was even worse with Scoot McNairy and Djimon Hounsou who played such completely half-baked characters. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, I have to admit that it was still fairly entertaining though and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
