A good movie

About a week ago, I saw ‘Wrath of Man’ and since this French original version was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, even though I used to be a big fan of Guy Ritchie, to be honest, I really had a hard time to care about his remake and, unsurprisingly, the original version turned out to be more satisfying. Both movies were interesting to watch though because, even though the plot remained very similar, the approach was however drastically different. Indeed, in Ritchie’s version, this job and company looked so slick while, in the original version, all these money transporters looked rather old and chubby, they didn’t get any training whatsoever but this realistic and gritty approach was much more satisfying though. It was the same thing with the main character, Jason Statham played his usual seemingly invincible tough guy and Albert Dupontel played a similar mysterious character but he was actually much more interesting because he also displayed some vulnerability as this guy seemed really lost in some wild goose chase. To be honest, even with the original version, not everything did work though. Indeed, while all the characters were entertaining enough, there were probably too many of them for a movie running barely 90 mins. As a result, there were several half-baked sub-plots and the most bewildering and useless was the one involving Aure Atika playing a woman who was way too gorgeous to end up working as a cleaning lady in some crummy hotel. It was also fun to see Jean Dujardin before he became really famous and he was a perfect choice to play this character. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, it was actually a solid gritty French thriller and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
