A good movie

To be honest, I wasnโ€™t really sure what to expect from this flick but it always seemed to be intriguing to me, especially since it was directed by Ben Wheatley, so I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it turned out to be a pretty neat dark comedy with an almost pitch-perfect tone. Indeed, it could have easily been too mean and the two main characters could have become too dislikeable or even even despicable but they never crossed this line which was very well done, in my opinion. It was also refreshing that the two main characters seemed to be very average, played by two fairly unknown actors, and yet they were always entertaining to behold. Finally, the damned thing was just so unpredictable and I was basically on my toes through most of the duration wondering what will then happen next. Unfortunately, from the point on that Tina figured out more or less what was actually going on with Richard, it seemed that the makers did struggle to find what to do with this weird seemingly messed-up couple. Basically, I'm afraid the whole thing went nowhere pretty much until the end and what you get to see was a succession of really random events which was, as far as I was concerned, hardly satisfying. Eventually, I wish they took a different approach with this material. Indeed, behind the obvious mayhem and madness, there was actually something rather sweet about them which was just so weird but also quite fascinating and I wish they dug deeper into that instead of having them arguing and bickering with each other endlessly pretty much until the end. Anyway, to conclude, even if it wasn't a real home-run, it was still a pretty neat dark comedy and I think it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.ย
