An average movie

Sequels are (most of the the time, unfortunately) very common in Hollywood but they usually concern action or horror movies, not such historical pictures. Still, it seemed to be a good idea to see Cate Blanchett portraying again the same character which was her breakthrough performance 10 years before. Eventually, the end-result was not completely successfull, I'm afraid. I mean, the whole thing (costums, sets,...) really looked gorgeous, there was a great cast (Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Samantha Morton, Abbie Cornish, Rhys Ifans, Eddie Redmayne, Clive Owen) and, of course, Cate Blachett was once again totally awesome in the title role. Unfortunately, the story didn't work very well. I did enjoy the political intrigues, I mean, that's what those movies are about but I wasn't so sure about the love stories. I mean, it was interesting to see her struggling between her feelings and her responsibilies as a Queen but the whole thing was becoming a soap at some point. Furthermore, the battles involving the ships were rather messy at the end and just didn't fit the rest of the movie. To conclude, the script was not bad but nothing really amazing, I'm afraid. Still, I was just a blast to see Cate Blanchett again in this iconic part and it remains a decent historical drama so it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
