An average movie

To be honest, I wasnโ€™t sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was starring Gerard Butler, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, even though it was nothing really impressive, I thought it was not bad at all either. At least, it was nice to see Butler using his skills for something else than yet another tedious action flick. Still, even though the guy is usually quite charismatic, he is definitely not one of the greatest actors, I'm afraid. It was especially glaring if you would compare him to Willem Dafoe who was, as usual, pitch-perfect in just a handful of scenes. Concerning the story itself, sure, you might argue that it was nothing really original but, in my opinion, the material was actually fairly well handled. Indeed, even though you might expect the main character to suddenly completely drop his work to care for his sick child, even if he did spend more time with the kid, he actually kept working all along which was quite refreshing. Concerning the headhunting stuff, I think it gave a fairly accurate portrait on how such companies might operate. Sure, the obsession with money and making a profit is rather sad and unhealthy but, in our decadent capitalist world, you will find this in all sectors linked to selling any kind of products, I'm afraid. At least, I don't think this profession is at the same level of stockbroking which must be, as far as I am concerned, one of the most useless jobs in the world. Eventually, even though they didn't do anything really wrong in this movie, the bottom line was that, after all, I didn't care much or enough about these characters and what they were going through. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, I have to admit that it was actually a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, at least, if you really like the genre.ย
