An average movie

I was rather curious to check this flick since it was the first motion picture including 'The Next Generation' cast, even though, I have to admit  that I have actually never seen this TV-show. Indeed, it was pretty neat to meet this new crew but, to be honest, It's a shame the whole thing was so poorly written. I mean, the introduction including the 'old' crew (Kirk, Scotty, Chekov) was not bad and the conclusion when Picard and Kirk work together was actually pretty awesome but, seriously, everything in between was rather tiresome and boring to watch. Among other things, there was a subplot involving Data getting an emotional chip which was rather poorly developed and there was another convoluted sub-plot which was even worse involving Malcom McDowell who is usual dependable as the bad guy. Still, Patrick Stewart was really good and I can't wait to see the next Star Trek movies with him. Furthermore, they definitely dared to show some balls by killing the legendary Captain Kirk, that was a good move. However, they still had to kill him twice (!) which felt rather redundant...Anyway, to conclude, the whole thing was a rather weak Star Trek installment but there were still some good ideas and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
