A good movie

I have to admit that I haven't heard anything about this movie before watching it and I had really no clue what to expect. Well, I think it was pretty bold from Henk to choose this movie when most of the members of our Filmclub are near or even above the 75 year old threshold displayed in this movie. It's interesting that, even though the concept developed here felt like it came from some science-fiction flick, it was however handled in a really sober way, in fact, it was even hyper-realistic and this approach to handle such a SF concept was maybe not really original but it still worked really well though. Even more intriguing was the fact that, even though this Japanese law was obviously ridiculous and inhuman, the way the elderly were treated in this movie didn't really differ from the way we are already treating then nowadays which was rather sad and confronting. Eventually, the main issue, as far as I was concerned, was the fact that it all felt rather disjointed. Sure, I didn't mind that there was no real plot. However, there was also no main character and, instead, they kept jumping from one character to another (seriously, some characters showed up for maybe only 5 mins and then never came back afterwards). I won't blame the actors involved as they all did a fine job but, as a result, you never get the opportunity to really know any of their respective characters. Eventually, it did create such a distance between them and the viewers and it was then hard to really care about what they were going through. Anyway, to conclude, even if this interesting concept could have been probably better developed, it was still a decent watch and I think it is worth a look.
