A good movie

Since I'm a huge fan of the Dardennes brothers, I really had to watch this flick. Once again, they were dealing with some realistic characters who were involved in some rather bleak and sordid business. The directing followed their usual style by giving a lot of space to the actors, with no musical background, except for the very last shot. As a result, the whole thing was quite spellbinding to watch with some tremendous performances, above all by Jérémie Renier who was pretty amazing as a junkie. However, to be honest, I thought it was a rather surprising that they did win the award for the best screenplay at the Cannes film festival since the writing was actually the weakest point in this flick. Indeed, there was not much continuity in Lorna's character when in the fact continuity has always been a trademark of the Dardennes brothers. Basically, even though their characters go through the most excruating events, they usually remain the same no matter how good or evil they started but it wasn’t the case with Lorna. As a result, I wasn’t really convinced by her actions which felt seriously plot-driven. Furthermore, the story did lack some focus (for example, what was this all about with the pregnancy stuff?!?). Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, it was still a decent watch and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
