Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of musicals but from time to time, I try to keep an open mind and watch one of those. This one was rather original, combining a standard French love story and some songs but no dancing, thank God for that. The love story is typical of the French culture as it is messy and convoluted involving at first 3 people and then later 4 people. My wife finds those stories rather annoying but I think they are much more interesting than the boring love stories coming from Hollywood. The directing was pretty good and I enjoyed the actors as well (Louis Garrel, Ludivine Sagnier, Chiara Mastroianni). The songs were pretty good and fit the story pretty well but, still, the whole thing didn't really blow me away. Maybe it would have been better without the whole musical thing, or maybe, it is just because I didn't care much about the characters and what they were going through, I don't know for sure. Still, it is a very well made and interesting musical and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in French movies.
