A good movie

Before becoming a big shot in Hollywood, before 'The Lord of the Rings', Peter Jackson made this flick which was ultimately a flop. If I remember it correctly, I even saw this movie when it came out in the movie theater and I did enjoy it back then. So, I rewatched it yesterday with my step-son and I must say, it still holds up pretty well in my opinion. Before 'LOTR', Peter Jackson used to make some really wacky comedies and, even though this movie was oriented towards the mainstream audience, he still retained the same dark humor and it was much appreciated. Furthermore, if for Peter Jackson, it was his last movie before reaching the VIP section in Hollywood, on the other hand, for Michael J. Fox, it was his swan song since it would be his last leading part. Anyway, for this movie, Fox played his usual character but he didn't bother me and I thought he did a decent job. Basically, it is a rather standard ghost story reminiscent of 'Ghostbusters' but it was pretty funny and entertaining. I remember it, back then, I was quite blown away by the special effects and, 16 years later, they still looked pretty awesome (no wonder as it was done by Weta Digital, the same guys from 'The Lord of the Rings' which became one of the most highly regarded special effects team in the world). To conclude, it is pretty much forgotten nowadays but it is actually pretty good and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Peter Jackson's work.
