An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Anna Kendrick, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it turned out to be pretty weak, I’m afraid. I mean, I did like the way they displayed that the Rapture itself is a rather weak concept. Indeed, basically, it seemed pretty lame that this cute innocent couple would be doomed, even though they didn’t do anything wrong and simply because they didn’t believe in God. In fact, as a result, not only evil folks would remain, a lot of decent people would stay as well. The idea of making a black comedy around this apocalyptic end of the world was not bad either but, unfortunately, most of the jokes were just terribly lame. Indeed, this movie was filled with some weird concepts such as zombies obsessing with lawn mowing, wraiths addicted to weed smoking, trash-talking crows, random meteorites, but none of these ideas was really funny. One of the (very few) good jokes was about the fact that the mother of the main character was sent back after a single day because she apparently kept complaining. Concerning Anna Kendrick, as usual, she was not bad but it was rather bewildering that her character, in fact, not only her, but pretty much all the characters involved seemed to be so unfazed by this dramatic turn of events. To make things worse, the whole idea of the anti-christ chasing Anna Kendrick’s character for some booty call might have sounded funny on paper but it turned out to be so tedious after all and it was above all so misguided to spend so much time on this. Anyway, to conclude, I don’t mind some really dark offensive anti-religious comedy but this one was barely entertaining and I don’t think it is really worth a look.
