An average movie

This movie was easily one of the most awaited movies to come out this year on Netflix so I was really eager to check it out, even if it didn’t receive some stellar reviews after all. Well, unfortunately, it wasn’t really good and, in my opinion, it did show once again how much Adam McKay’s recent output has been rather over praised. I mean, I have to admit it, the concept did have some potential and Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence were both at the top of their game as they both delivered some really strong performances. However, the first issue was that all the other characters were never really interesting or entertaining and there was a bunch of them. Furthermore, the concept turned out to be rather clunky after all. Indeed, the beginning scenes were pretty much pitch-perfect up until they had to go to the White House for the first time. Indeed, DiCaprio and Lawrence were doing an incredible balancing act between the comedy and the drama involving their terrible burden. However, all the people working in the White House turned out to be some incompetent annoying and sometimes rather weird fools which turned out to be some kind of virus infecting all the characters in this movie but, in contrary to what McKay might have thought, it didn’t make them funny. There was also the issue that we are currently living in a worldwide pandemic which outcome has become rather uncertain and, even more dramatic, the current global warming is already catastrophic and might result in our extinction if we don’t act quickly and properly so to make some gross jokes about the end of the world, at this juncture, was actually more depressing than really entertaining. Finally, the damned thing was just so pretentious. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, I guess it was still a decent watch but, considering the talented people involved , it should have been much better than that though.
