An average movie

Christopher Hampton is above all famous as a screenwriter but he has also directed a few movies. This is his second directing feature and I was above all attracted by the interesting cast (Bob Hoskins, Patricia Arquette, Gรฉrard Depardieu, Jim Broadbent, Christian Bale, Eddie Izzard, Robin Williams). Personally, it is always nice to see Depardieu in an English speaking feature but it is a real shame that he always shows up in such obscure productions. Basically, it is some kind of spy flick taking place during the 18th century in London and, even though the whole thing was rather intriguing, I was still not really blown away. I don't know but, even though the time and place were definitely intriguing, there was something missing about the story and it was just not entertaining enough. Back then, Christian Bale was really young and it was a long way before he became Mr Bruce Wayne so if you are fan of his work, it is definitely a movie for you. To conclude, in spite of its flaws, I still think it remains a well made and interesting movie and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
