To be honest, I really didn’t care much about ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ and, back then, I swore I was pretty much done with this franchise and, yet, I still ended up watching this new installment in the movie theater. First of all, Nick, my step-son, really likes this kind of movies involving some huge monsters. Then, our priority was actually ‘Black Widow’ but it will be released only next month. Anyway, I thought it was pretty glorious to go back to the movie theater with my buddy after 8 long months because of the Corona pandemic and I’m glad we went to see something spectacular. However, to be honest, I still didn’t care much for the story and I still believe that these movies take themselves way too seriously but I can’t deny that it was pretty awesome to see these 2 legendary monsters fight with each other. On top of that, the couple of fights they were involved in were really well done and seriously entertaining. However, everything else, every single human characters was just so tedious, they kept talking about some nonsensical scientific babble that nobody cares about. Seriously, all these movies follow the same pattern which is not really rewarding or entertaining and it makes it as a result for me rather hard to care about the genre. However, I did appreciate the fact that Adam Wingard made a conscious choice to keep the running time under 2 hours because there is no reason whatsoever that such blockbusters run any longer. Eventually, you might wonder how they could further develop this franchise since everything seems to have been said and done at this point but I have to admit that I’m not an expert in this genre and there might be more stories to tell regarding these monsters. Anyway, to conclude, even though I’m still not a fan of this franchise, I have to admit that it was a solid installment, maybe the best one so far, and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
