Review of Concerto for Cello and Orchestra No. 2

This is one of my top 5 favorite classical discs of all time. The first track, Concerto For Cello & Orchestra No. 2 is a horrific 33 minute journey. By horrific I mean the type of music that would make the soundtrack for Psycho seem sane. Penderecki creates such wonderful depressing music and I swear if I had the lights off listening to this I'd be scared. The next track, Partita is equally as great, but for different reasons. It's a very experimental track featuring a whole load of instruments from the Harpsicord to the Electric Guitar. It's still classical music but with a twist. The final track, Stabat Mater is a choral masterpiece and one of his classics. Such haunting vocals and it's just as moving as the first piece. This was the disc that got me hooked on Krzysztof Penderecki, forever!
