An average movie

Following his success with 'Shaolin Soccer' and 'Kung Fu Hustle', Stephen Chow directed this kid flick. Basically , it is an Asian version of E.T and I must say that the alien was pretty cute, but a part from that, it didn't really blow me mind. Like the other movies directed by Chow mentioned at the beginning of this review, I was able see the potential but it seems that I don't really enjoy his directing style. Basically, in my opinion, it was a standard flick for young children and since I don't belong to the target audience, it was not really surprising that I didn't really enjoy it. On the other hand, there were a few dramatic scenes which I found in fact too heavy for a younger audience. So, the whole thing seemed to me to be rather unbalanced but it could be a cultural thing in the sense, that in Asia, it is possible that they have a different approach to family movies. Anyway, since it was already the 3rd movie directed by Stephen Chow which I found rather underwhelming, it seems that he will join the list of directors who at first seemed really intriguing but whose work was eventually rather disappointing, at least to me. Still, to conclude, I still thing that there was enough interesting stuff in this movie and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Stephen Chowโ€™s work.
