A good movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Mia Wasikowska, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, first of all, thanks to this movie, you get to see some gorgeous and even hypnotic Australian landscapes and only therefore I think the damned thing was absolutely worth a look. Wasikowska was also a perfect choice to play the main character and she delivered here another solid performance. I also liked the way that they didn’t try to compromise this interesting woman by trying to go really deep in her thoughts and feelings but while I respect this approach, it actually backfired I’m afraid. I mean, it seems that the makers tried to be faithfull regarding the way this woman did interact with people (or how she didn’t interact with them, to be more accurate) and they also avoided to add some far-fetched obstacles just to make the whole thing more spectacular. However, as a result, you only get to see this girl endlessly walking around with her camels in these amazing landscapes but not much more than that. They also tried to add from time to time some flashback scenes to give the viewers some background but, eventually, even Robyn Davidson didn’t really know why she took this journey and, when she was done, it didn’t feel that she had much evolved after all. In fact, I actually wondered what happened to her afterwards. Did she manage to get back in the mainstream society or did she struggle to function as any average person? But I guess that would be a complete different story. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was nothing really groundbreaking, I thought it was still pretty good and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
