An average movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Joe Carnahan’s work, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, first of all, I have to admit that, at least, Carnahan tried to do something completely different than his previous movies. Still, to be honest, I wasn’t completely convinced though. I mean, the damned thing really had some potential but, in my opinion,  Carnahan never really managed to keep the tone right. Indeed, basically, half of it was rather straightforward and the other half was just seriously wacky and I think it would have worked better if he had made some choice to make something completely surreal but I guess that it was too big a stretch for him (I know, that was a lazy pun…). I had about the same feeling concerning Patrick Wilson. I mean, it was pretty neat that he tried to shake his rather clean-cut image and he was not bad at all but the guy is no Michael Fassbender or Tom Hardy. At least, he was miles better than Jessica Alba who was rather pathetic playing some kind of nerd. Concerning Chris Pine, I don’t know, his character was wild but probably too much over the top for my taste. Anyway, to conclude, even if the whole thing didn’t completely work for me, it was still a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, especially if you are interested in Joe Carnahan’s work.
