To be honest, since I didn't care much for the previous installments, I wasn't expecting much with this new sequel but since my kids really wanted to see it, I thought we might as well check it out. Well, once again, I didn't really work for me, I'm afraid. I mean, sure, I have to admit it, the animation was fine but I didn't think it was really entertaining. Once again, you had some bad guys trying to destroy the dragons and, once again, you had some good guys trying to protect them and it all felt rather generic to me. It's too because the whole thing definitely had a darker edge than your usual DreamWorks production but it was unfortunately toned down to make sure it would still attract families with young kids. In fact, I actually figured out what bothered me the most with this franchise and I think it was actually Hiccup. It's not that he was such an awful main character, he did have a rather lame name though, it's just that the guy was just so bland and, as a result, I thought he was actually rather boring. At least, the conclusion was pretty neat but that was hardly enough as far as I was concerned. Anyway, to conclude, even though I will probably never understand the appeal of this franchise, I have to admit that this final installment was not bad and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
