An average movie

I already saw this movie but, since it was a while back and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out again. The first time around, I had some really low expectations and I thought it was a (slight) improvement from the previous instalment but, after rewatching the damned thing, to be honest, I’m not so sure anymore. Sure, it was pretty neat that Alice was going back to Racoon City and especially to the Hive, 16 years after the first instalment. However, I was surprised by how low key the damned thing was when it was supposed to be the very last movie in this franchise (in fact, it turned out to be one of the cheapest movies they made after all). The most bewildering thing with this franchise was how they kept constantly retconning the story each time around. In this case, in the previous movie, the Red Queen was the bad guy, Wesker suddenly became an ally and there was supposed to be this big fight at the White House. However, in this movie, the Red Queen was now somehow helping out Alice, Wesker was again the bad guy and they actually completely skipped this supposedly huge battle at the White House (they actually already did something similar between instalment 4 and 5). Even more bewildering was the fact that, in instalment 5, they brought back many iconic characters (Rain, Ada Wong, Jill Valentine, Luther West, Leon S. Kennedy, Barry Burton, Carlos Oliveira) but, for this supposedly big ‘Final Chapter’, all these characters were gone without any explanation. Instead, they brought back Claire Redfield (what happened to Chris is anyone’s guess…) which was a nice touch but they could or should have finish up with all these characters involved as it would have been nice way to end this franchise. At least, eventually, only Alice herself was surprised to find out that she was a clone after all but I still think it was a nice that they finally confirmed this at the very end, even if it was in fact really easy to guess. Anyway, to conclude, even if this movie was maybe not as bad as I expected, it was still pretty weak and I don’t think it is worth a look, except maybe if you are a die-hard fan of the genre.
