An average movie

P.J. Hogan’s previous movies ('Muriel's wedding', 'My Best Friend's Wedding') were not bad at all and since I have a weak spot for Kathy Bates and Rupert Everett, I thought I should check this one out. To be honest, it must be the most obscure movie directed by P.J. Hogan I have seen so far. Another attracting aspect was the fact that Kathy Bates was, for once, playing the lead. Indeed, Bates is definitely one of the most underrated actress at work nowadays and she delivered here a solid performance, as usual. Unfortunately, it was pretty obvious that they tried here to make a typical quirky indie flick but it didn't really work for me, I’m afraid. Indeed, the plot was supposed to be hilarious and over the top but I didn't think it was funny at all. Basically, I was rather bored by the whole thing and I didn’t care much about the characters and what they were going through even if the actors really tried their best to make it entertaining. To conclude, it is a rather disappointing movie, I didn’t care much for it, and eventually, it is not really worth a look, even if you like the genre.
