A good movie

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Michael Fassbender, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, eventually, it turned out ot be a really weird mix between 'Frank Sidebottom', a character created by Chris Sievey, and Daniel Johnston, a doomed musical artist who was supposedly a genius but who was also seriously mentally ill. To be honest, I have to admit that I had never heard of Frank Sidebottom before watching this movie but, except for the head, this movie didn't have much to do with this comic character. On the other hand, I was well aware of who Daniel Johnston was/is and the connection was really obvious. In fact, exactly like Johnston, I never had the feeling that Frank was such a musical wonder and, except for a few tunes which ware decent, I didn't care at all for his music. Eventually, the whole point of this movie was not really the discovery of a musical talent but it was more some kind of study on mentall illness and it mostly worked because even though the concept was really weird, they played its straightforward and all the characters were aware about how weird their situation was. Still, somehow, I wasn't completely sold maybe because I had the feeling that the makers didn't really know what to do with this band. I mean, should we think that they were great? that were laughable? Should we actually care at all? Furthermore, I'm not so sure if it was a good move to have Frank remove his 'head' towards the end. Anyway, to conclude, even though it didn't completely blow me away, it was still a really original feature and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.ย
