Katanagatari (translated to English as Swordstory) is an anime aired during the year of 2010, tells the story of one guy (Shichika Yasuri, a swordsman) and one girl (Togame, an ambitious strategist) in a quest to find twelve magic swords, during the Japanese medieval era. Although this sounds simple or even generic on paper, the way that plays out on screen it's actually very creative.
To start with, I should point out the strongest point of the show: The characters.
The main duo (Shichika and Togame) have well-defined personalities and share a very well hanged realitionship on screen, although at first they feel like a tsundere and a blockhead relationship, by the end of the serie they are given so much insight and their relationship is explored in one of the strangest but touching ways that exist. Their share a very well build chemistry though the anime.
The rest of the cast remindes solid though at the show. All have a really strong presence on screen, they all have their set of attacks, their have they time with the protagonists ,their motivations are clear, we know their past, their personalities are very unique, most of the time proof to be a challenge for the Duo, and even we fell sorry by the death of some of the villians.
As for the story itself, is not mega deep or anything, but it is a pretty good one and above is very balanced. The dialogues are delivered in a smart way making the jokes funnier, the Setting is fairly well presented (and has some historical accuracy as far as I know) plus it has a notable impact on the cast not leaving this element just as decoration, the plot follows a episodic structure most of the time with formula of "villian of the week" (or should I said Month in this case?) but its executed so well that the stories blows the mind sometimes (futhermore the way that they all conect towards the end), the pacing is slow mostly because of the length of the episodes (50 minutes) and the amount of dialogue presented on it, so it can be tired for some to watch it.
The visuals are very nice in general: The battles (altough most of them are short) they are really well directed, the animation most of the time is good, the artstyle (even though there are very simple) match with the style of the show in the sense that they do not clash when they enter comedy or when there is action or when there are serious moments, it remains like a ring finger. The music also helps fitting with the feeling of the series by having traditional japanese style songs.
Conclusion: Maybe some of you don't keep track of the show, since don’t find the comedy good because it’s not the usual juvenile variant. There are even those who find the ending to be a troll or find it to be empty for his simplistic plot with little action for a samurai story. I am not one of those people since I liked how the episodes there played-out, the ending (even though it's unexpectated) it serves to give more impact to the message about love in a "tragic sense" without reaching the limits, different from most of his kind.
Leaving his problems aside, I find it to be an amazing series, and it deserves a solid 8/10. Easily one of my favorite anime of all time

Katanagatari (literalmente traducido al español como "Historia de espadas") es un anime transmitido durante el año de 2010, cuenta la historia de un chico (Shichika Yasuri, un espadachín) y una chica (Togame, un estratega ambiciosa) en una búsqueda para encontrar doce espadas mágicas, durante la era medieval japonesa. Aunque esto suene simple o incluso genérico en papel, la manera que juega hacia fuera en la pantalla es realmente muy creativo.
Para empezar, debo señalar el punto más fuerte de la serie: Los personajes.
El dúo principal (Shichika y Togame) tiene personalidades bien definidas y comparte un relación muy manejada en pantalla, aunque al principio se sienten como una relación de tsundere y un cabeza hueca, al final de la serie se les da tanta comprensión y su relación se explora en una de las maneras más extrañas pero conmovedoras que existen. Comparten una química muy bien construir a través del anime.
El resto del reparto recuerda sólido durante el show. Todos tienen una presencia muy fuerte en pantalla, todos ellos tienen su conjunto de ataques, poseen su tiempo con los protagonistas, sus motivaciones son claras, sabemos su pasado, sus personalidades son muy únicas, la mayoría de las veces prueba de ser un reto Para el dúo, e incluso nos sentimos lástima por la muerte de algunos de los villanos.
En cuanto a la historia en sí, no es mega profunda o nada, pero es una muy buena y por encima de es muy equilibrado. Los diálogos se entregan de una manera inteligente haciendo las bromas más divertidos, el ajuste es bastante bien presentado (y tiene cierta exactitud histórica por lo que sé) más él tiene un impacto notable en el molde que no deja este elemento apenas como decoración , La trama sigue una estructura episódica la mayor parte del tiempo con la fórmula de "villano de la semana" (o debería decir Mes en este caso?) Pero su ejecución tan bien que las historias sopla la mente a veces (mas aun la forma en que todos ellos se conectan hacia el final), el ritmo es lento debido principalmente a la duración de los episodios (50 minutos) y la cantidad de diálogo presentado en éstos, por lo que puede estar cansado para que algunos lo vean.
A nivel general, lo visual es muy bonito: Las batallas (aunque la mayoría de ellas son cortas) son muy bien dirigidas, la animación es buena la mayoría del tiempo, el estilo artístico (aunque hay muy simple) coincide con el estilo del show, en el sentido de que no chocan cuando entran en comedia o cuando hay acción o cuando hay momentos serios, permanece como anillo al dedo . La música también ayuda a encajar con la sensación de la serie por tener canciones tradicionales de estilo japonés.
Conclusión: Tal vez algunos de ustedes no siguen el programa, ya que no encuentran la comedia buena porque no es la variante juvenil habitual. Incluso hay quienes encuentran que el final es un troll o lo encuentran vacío por su trama simplista con poca acción para una serie de samurais. No soy una de esas personas ya que me gustó cómo los episodios fueron ejecutados, sus mensajes que dieron, el final (aunque es inesperado y parece salir de la nada) sirve para dar más impacto al mensaje sobre el amor en un "sentido trágico" sin llegar a los límites, diferente a la mayoría de su clase.
Dejando sus problemas algo obvios de lado, me parece una serie increíble, y se merece un sólido 8/10. Fácilmente uno de mis animes favoritos de todos los tiempos.
