To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect but since the critics were quite positive, I thought it should give it a try. Well, eventualy, I thought it was pretty good. Basically, it was some kind of mix of 'E.T.' and 'Cloverfield'. First of all, I really loved the way they perfectly recreated the 70's (the set-dressing, the clothes, the haircut,....) and it was like watching an old movie but with some awesome action scenes. And indeed, the special effects were really neat but they were not the point of this movie. Indeed, the main point of interest were the kids and I have to say they all gave some decent performances, especially, Elle Fanning (and she was just 13 years old at the time! I thought she was much older when watching this flick). The only issue was the plot which was rather predictable and nothing really original and, in my opinion, it was actually way too similar to 'Cloverfield' (also produced by J.J. Abrams). Eventually, you might expect that something really big and impressive will take place but it never really happens so that was also slightly underwhelming. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was nothing really ground-breaking, I thought it was a very well made and entertaining flick and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
