I already saw this movie but, since it was a while back, I was quite eager to check it out again. On top of that, when I first watched it, it was the first (and actually only) time I had some technical issue with Netflix and the movie was lagging every 5 mins. To be honest, this rewatch was not ideal either. Indeed, this time, I saw it on the BBC without subtitles and, even though I was able to follow most of it, I think I will have to rewatch it again with subtitles to be able to completely follow all these amazing dialogues. Anyway, once again, I wasn't disappointed and, in fact, I think I enjoyed it even more the second time around. Eventually, the damned thing completely deserves its stellar reputation and it is probably the best script ever written. I still think it was rather far-fetched that a big star like Margo Channing would hire such a total stranger to be her assistant just like that. I mean, it's not as if the girl was starving or living under a bridge. However, even this aspect didnโt bother me much anymore as it displayed how convincing and manipulative Eve was. I also loved the introduction, how all the characters were in fact rather messed up and the whole thing gave a dark and fascinating look on the acting world. It displayed how this world is in fact really superficial and hard work and talent won't be apparently enough, you would need to be also ruthlessly ambitious to succeed. Eventually, the best actors are the best con artists and the best con artists would make some amazing actors, as displayed in this movie. Concerning Bette Davis, I have to confess that I haven't seen so much of her work so far but she was definitely impressive in this movie (eventually, after all these years, I have still watched only 4 of her movies, shame on me). Anyway, to conclude, it is a great classic, I really loved the damned thing and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.ย
