Notes:
*This movie didn't go as noticed as it should be because of Nate Parker's allegations.
*Besides that I hear that those who have watched this thought it was quite brilliant.
*I myself am curious about the movie itself whether it is good or not.
*It has a pretty damn good cast too.
*This isn't the first film Nate Parker has written with two other films.
*He did one called Eden that is pretty under the radar, but I thought was pretty good.
*As for the other one I have not seen or heard of it before.
*This is the only film credit for writer Jean McGianni Celestin.
*Is this really good or should people continue to stay away.
Pros:
*The acting is excellent.
*Nate Parker has a unique directing style that in my opinion sets this apart.
*The story is very well done.
*It's a brutal and disturbing one, but it's also an important one to be told.
Cons:
*It is a bit hard to get through due to the content it deals with.
*There were moments that really hurt emotionally when I think that these things happened.
Some Thoughts:
*I thought it was smart that although there were some pretty gruesome moments they were brief and only emphasized how awful those times were.
*It's terribly scary to know these things actually happened and with things the way they are going now.
Verdict:
It's mostly a slow burner, but it's effective for the entirety of the story. The content is disturbing and I feel it should be. This stuff isn't meant to be taken lightly. This was a period of history that really shouldn't have existed. Nothing about slavery or racism is right. I think this is important to watch. It won't be easy mind you, but it's worth it.
