A good movie

In the contrary to the other members of my film club with whom I have seen this movie, I have actually watched most of the movies directed by François Ozon and what I probably like the most about this director is his verstality. Indeed, you never really know what you will get with him and, this time, he came up with some hommage to the 30's German black-and-white movies (apparently, it was even a remake of a movie directed by Ernst Lubitsch called 'Broken Lullaby'). Well, first of all, it was easily the most gorgeous movie delivered by Ozon so far and the actors involved were all pretty strong. Unfortunately, even though everybody seemed to be really enthusiast about this tale, I can't say it really amazed me. I mean, I really liked the mix between drama, romance and even thriller but, somehow, it was still missing something. The main issue, I guess, was that this concept of having a mysterious stranger somehow replacing someone who has been recenly deceased was actually a rather old gimmick and I don't think that Ozon added much to this old formula. Especially from the moment you finally learn the truth, it became rather flat and, in the 3rd act, when the German woman goes after this mysterious French man, it felt rather redundant and didn't really change the situation of both characters. Still, even though it didn't completely blow away, it was a very nice watch and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
