An average movie

I actually already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had this movie on DVD, I thought I might as well check it out again. In the super-hero genre, this movie is nowadays pretty much considered a classic, at least, easily one of the best movies in this franchise but, to be honest, in my opinion, it was only a slight improvement on the previous installment. At least, I have to admit that they did get something right. Indeed, what bothered me the most about 'X-Men' was the fact that it was so damned short and this movie was about 40 mins longer than its predecessor so they finally had more time to develop some of their interesting ideas. Unfortunately, I still had a hard time to care about the plot. The problem with this franchise is that, even though the conflict between mutants and humans was definitely intriguing, they kept using it for every single movie which was a mistake in my opinion. Same thing for Magneto, this character is pretty awesome, I'll give you that, and Ian McKellen was and still is terrific in this role but can you imagine Spider-Man fighting only against the Green Goblin, Batman fighting only against the Joker or the Avengers against Loki? Of course it would be rather boring but that's basically the choice they made with this franchise. Still, I have to admit it, the damned thing was fairly entertaining. By the way, I finally figured out what was the problem with Halle Berry's character and why this fine actress seemed always completely wasted in this franchise. The problem with her character is that, in contrary to anyone else, she didn't have any personal conflict or issues to solve so the makers never felt the need to spend any extra time on her character to make her more interesting (she still managed to be shown prominently on the poster though). Anyway, to conclude, even though I think it is rather overrated, it was still a decent watch and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.ย
