Back in the 90’s, there was this amazing Danish film movement called ‘Dogme 95’ and, especially in the current time period when the massive blockbusters are dominating the film world, it was incredibly refreshing to have some directors excluding the use of elaborate special effects or technology to give a pure cinematic experience. Back in those days, I followed closely this movement and I managed to watch the first 4 Dogme movies in the movie theater when they were released including this movie. To be honest, I think this flick was probably the least impressive one of them all but it was still fairly enjoyable. Indeed, in my opinion, the story was not original whatsoever and even rather predictable. Still, thanks to the refreshing rules of the Dogme 95, some competent directing and some really sold acting, it was a nice feature and I really enjoyed it. Concerning Søren Kragh-Jacobsen, I haven’t seen anything else from this director so it seems that the whole process was just a nice way to get some international attention. Anyway, to conclude, even though it seems to be pretty much forgotten nowadays, it is actually definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Danish movies.
